PC Build MK1

A high-end desktop I built in 2025 (Ryzen 9 9950X, RTX 5080, 128 GB DDR5) to run GPU-heavy robotics-simulation software my laptop couldn't handle.

If you're like me, you may ask yourself, from time to time, "Do I have enough compute?" And if you're even more like me, then you'll also answer "no." In 2025, I finally got around to building a PC to address this problem. My laptop at the time was wholly incapable of running some software I was interested in — namely NVIDIA's Isaac Sim and Isaac Gym. I opted for the following main components:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
  • GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5080
  • RAM: 128 GB DDR5
  • Motherboard: ASUS ProArt X870E Wi-Fi

I sprung for what some might consider overkill on the motherboard and RAM, but I wanted some future-proofing — for instance, in case I ever win the lottery and decide to upgrade to a 5090.

A more detailed parts list can be found on PCPartPicker, which makes builds so much easier.
